Bruno Fernandes responds as ex-Man Utd team-mate Paul Pogba handed FOUR-YEAR doping ban
After being found guilty of doping, Paul Pogba wrote a lengthy statement on Instagram. His former Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes has since sent a message of support.
In an attempt to elude a four-year doping ban, Paul Pogba is reportedly “together” with Bruno Fernandes.
After receiving the ban, it was declared on Thursday that the Frenchman’s playing days were virtually over. When Pogba tested positive for DHEA, a drug that is prohibited and increases endogenous testosterone, he was first suspended in September.
After that, a counteranalysis of a secondary sample produced a similar positive outcome. Pogba has consistently insisted that the breach was unintentional, as have his representatives.
These arguments were rejected by the National Anti-Doping Tribunal, which imposed the harshest punishment possible on him. Many of Pogba’s former Manchester United teammates have sent him messages of support after he posted an emotional statement on Instagram.
Bruno Fernandes, the current captain, wrote, “Together bro,” and Harry Maguire responded, “PP,” emoji-ing a heart. Jadon Sancho likewise sent a single heart, while Raphael Varane responded, “force,” with a love heart emoji.
The supportive messages kept coming in. “You are strong brother, keep fighting for your Futbol,” said former Red Devil Luis Nani.
Following the confirmation of his ban, Pogba expressed his disappointment on Instagram before announcing his plan to file an appeal. “I have been informed about the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping’s decision today, and I think the verdict is incorrect,” the man wrote.
“I am devastated, appalled, and saddened that everything I have worked so hard to achieve in my professional playing career has been taken from me. The whole story will become evident once I am no longer subject to legal constraints, but I have never purposefully or knowingly taken any supplements that are against anti-doping laws.
“As a professional athlete, I would never use illegal substances to improve my performance, and I have never denigrated or betrayed teammates or the fans of any team I have played for or against. I plan to file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in light of the ruling made today.
Pogba’s second stint with Juventus will now essentially end due to his ban. His contract does not expire until the summer of 2026, so he cannot play before then.
Pogba’s second stint with the big-time Italian team has not gone well. On a free transfer from Manchester United, he returned to the team, but injury ended his rookie campaign.
Before receiving a suspension, the midfield player had only appeared in two Serie A games this season. With an £89 million transfer to Manchester United in 2016, Pogba became the most expensive signing in British football history, but he never quite lived up to the hype at Old Trafford.
