BREAKING NEWS:After the Simon Hooper controversy in the Man City draw, the Tottenham player who infuriated Erling Haaland

After Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur drew 3-3, there was a rather sour conclusion to the match at the Etihad Stadium. Spurs took an early lead and twice overcame the Premier League leaders to gain a crucial point and snap a three-game losing streak.

Pep Guardiola was not pleased with the errors his players made, but City was more incensed about the call that cost them a chance to tie the score in the closing moments of the game than they were about the goals they gave up.

In injury time, Emerson Royal fouled Erling Haaland just inside his own half, but the Norwegian recovered quickly. Simon Hooper, the referee, didn’t seem to signal a free kick and instead let Haaland play a beautiful ball into Jack Grealish’s run.

At that point, Hooper gave the signal for a free kick, with Grealish crossing the halfway line and entering behind the elevated Tottenham defense. Haaland was given a yellow card for his protests and became apoplectic with rage.

After the game, he continued to vent his rage on social media and by making more protests directed at the referee after the final whistle was blown. To be honest, he was fortunate to avoid getting another yellow card.

Emotions taking over, head coach Pep Guardiola had to yank his striker away before they exited the Etihad Stadium. However, there was another small incident that infuriated Guardiola and Haaland equally.

Giovani Lo Celso, a Tottenham player who had been substituted, seemed to say something to Haaland as he was leaving, which gave the Norwegian striker even more encouragement. After saying a few more things to Lo Celso, who was clearly not impressed by him, Guardiola motioned for his striker to leave the field of play.

Although the exact words spoken by Lo Celso are unknown, it is possible that the Argentinean did something instead of saying something, as our story’s main image illustrates above. What may have added to the confusion was the picture by Getty that seems to show Lo Celso nudging Haaland as he walked off the pitch.
