Breaking News: Roy Keane explains why Harry Maguire ‘frightens Manchester United team-mates to death’
Harry Maguire, according to Roy Keane, is holding back his Manchester United teammates.
The three Manchester United players that Roy Keane feels are incapable of executing one of Erik ten Hag’s strategies have been named.
Fulham was the opponent for United’s first loss since the start of the year last weekend. Prior to this, the Reds had won four straight Premier League games to increase their chances of making it into the Champions League.
United took a break from league play on Wednesday night to play Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup’s fifth round. Ten Hag’s team secured a much-needed 1-0 victory thanks to a late goal from Casemiro, securing a quarter-final matchup at home against Liverpool.
Additionally, Keane discussed Ten Hag’s method of forcing opposing teams to give up possession while appearing on the Stick to Football podcast from Sky Bet. He identified Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford as players who are not compatible with that system.
“They [Manchester United] aren’t pressing up,” he remarked. I don’t want to put all the blame on [Harry] Maguire, but there’s always the fear that Man United will arrive and clog the pitch like all the other elite teams.
“There are gaps because there’s that constant worry with him [Maguire]. They are so terrified of going too high because they believe that “anything over the top, he’d be in trouble.”
“Manchester United hasn’t got the players to [press],” continued the former United captain.
“[Bruno] Fernandes will not comply. Rashford won’t do it; they might play for five or ten minutes, so leopards and spots are your options if your team doesn’t press. Man United will never be proficient in that pressing aspect of it.
