Breaking News: (Not Again) Potchetinno confused as Four Chelsea important players rule out against Manchester City, because of injury

most recent Chelsea news as In preparation for a tough matchup against Premier League winners Manchester City, Mauricio Pochettino has his defense down to the bare minimum.

Mauricio Pochettino’s jigsaw pieces have been shattered and thrown into the air several times this year. Actually, last week at Villa Park, they were only really in place for eighty-five minutes.

This is the manager’s second problem to solve, and there aren’t many easy answers this time. It will take a small miracle for Pochettino to keep things completely shut out after the manager confirmed Thiago Silva’s absence prior to the team’s trip to Manchester to take on City, the winners of five of the previous six Premier League seasons.

Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Chelsea 8-0 overall in the four games they played last season. Though the team appears completely different this time, Saturday’s 4–4 draw in November will hopefully linger in the Etihad Stadium’s away end.

Chelsea has won two games in a row away from home, which completely contrasts with their previous six-game losing streak. However, there are still unanswered questions. Since October, there have only been two clean sheets in the league. Throughout the season, there have only been two away from home.

Even at 39 years old, Silva has patrolled a wide range of players and configurations surrounding him. But the victory over Aston Villa last week highlighted a more serious problem that hadn’t really been addressed. Even though Silva has a lot to offer on the field, his shortcomings are still not widely known.

The Brazilian is unable to play at the same intensity as his younger teammates throughout games, and even though he frequently reads play well and cuts out danger, Pedro Neto singled him out against Wolves and was a part of a team that had already conceded four goals against Liverpool just a few days prior.

Silva has been isolated far too frequently, despite the fact that his inclusion forces Chelsea to play a lower defensive line out of position or risk being caught playing a high one, and to move less aggressively when the ball is in play. Pochettino compares it to wanting and indulging in cake.

Silva makes enough contributions to be considered indispensable, but he is not perfect. It makes sense that his position is so certain when there isn’t much of an option, as it has been for the majority of the season. However, there is undoubtedly a case to be made for City on Saturday that he doesn’t belong in the best Chelsea defense at the moment. Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile put on a strong team performance away to Villa, which was exactly what many fans of the Monaco team might have anticipated. The Disasi-Badiashile axis has already started 65 games and kept 20 clean sheets in a team of new relationships.

At this point, that body of work appears to be significantly larger than any of the other combinations in the field. The French-speaking duo, accompanied by Malo Gusto, a fellow French right-back, are far more suited to each other’s style of play than anyone is with Silva. Despite not being the most agile player, Disasi’s age allows him to cover ground more quickly than Silva. Playing on the left of the two as a natural fit, Badiahsile is undoubtedly fast when needed.

Ten days ago, they appeared to be Chelsea’s future for more than an hour. It also comes as no surprise. Just three of their eleven games together in west London have seen them start as natural full-backs on either side. There is only one player left in the league, and that day Reece James had to leave the game after 30 minutes due to an injury.

There was almost complete dominance over Aston Villa’s dangerous forward line when played alongside true full-backs. Chelsea conceded shortly after Badiashile was substituted due to an injury, although this is only an inferential observation. It is a great shame that they haven’t been able to play more games as a unit in what is known as an orthodox back four thus far.

Football prevents them from doing so on Saturday as well.London is aware that Badiashile’s most recent fitness issue will cause him to miss about four weeks of work. It will further compound Pochettino’s problems by keeping him out of the Carabao Cup final. Football adds James’s current absence, Wesley Fofana’s, and Marc Cucurella’s return to solitary training in anticipation of a potential comeback in the upcoming months.London is aware, and once more, a complete defense is presently hurt. Together, James, Silva, Fofana, and Cucurella played in enough games to form a strong Premier League backline in 2018.

Gusto is a capable James substitute even though Ben Chilwell is a better player than Cucurella. Disasi with Badiashile is currently argued to be just as suitable for the current squad as Silva and Fofana, which has limited Pochettino’s options. Though barely fit to start, Trevoh Chalobah is back, and Ian Maatsen was selected as an attacking option rather than a left-back right away. The fact that Disasi and Badiashile have collaborated on more games as a full-back than as a true partnership is evidence of Pochettino’s use of square pegs and round holes.

Silva has a natural replacement on Saturday, and Gusto has been given the all-clear, so there isn’t much more need to adjust outside of that. At Selhurst Park, Colwill was the man to come on in the second half, and Chelsea were somewhat freed up even though the sample size was small. Attack waves arrived more quickly, Palace was confined, and eventually both goals were scored. The fact that Silva fouled out is not the only reason this occurred; Gusto was off the field when Conor Gallagher scored to seal the three points, but there are still unanswered long-term concerns about the team’s future.

When Pochettino travels north for the match on Saturday, he won’t have many options. The ideal lineup for him would have James on the right, Chilwell on the left, and quick center backs like Fofana, Badiashile, or Colwill on the right. The truth is that what appeared to be Chelsea’s new best defensive lineup has already changed in less than a week.

Even though Colwill in for Badiashile is a straightforward call, it is still somewhat of a blow given the assurances given by Disasi and his old friend. Chelsea now appears prepared to physically test Gusto to the utmost against the most formidable opponent to date. He’ll do that on the opposite side, overlapping with Disasi and Colwill with Chilwell while continuing to hone his match sharpness.
