Prior to Wednesday night’s Premier League match between Chelsea and Manchester United, manager Mauricio Pochettino would like to call up a few of his injured stars.

Conor Gallagher, the manager of the Blues, will be without him after the ever-present midfielder received two yellow cards against Brighton. It follows Reece James’s dismissal from Chelsea’s loss to Newcastle.

But, given how quickly games are played these days, it does not appear likely that some injured players will return, especially since there is another match against Everton the following weekend.

Football.london looks at Chelsea’s most recent injury news in light of this.

Romeo Lavia has been recovering from an ankle injury ever since he got to Stamford Bridge, and he hasn’t made his Blues debut yet. The teenage midfielder’s rehabilitation journey took a significant turn for the worse last month, delaying his return until December.

Lavia is back in the running, and Pochettino was determining whether to use him for the Brighton match. Despite not making the squad in the end, it was a positive sign of his fitness improvement.

Everton (A) on Sunday, December 10 is one possible return date.

Christopher Nkunku
Nkunku has at last resumed training with the first team following several months of recuperation. Though he was close to making the squad, he ultimately did not play against Brighton.

Nkunku and Lavia “are close” and appear likely to be involved soon, according to Pochettino. Manchester United might be playing too soon given the short turnaround in midweek.

Everton (A) on Sunday, December 10 is one possible return date.

Bad Gusto
Due to a knee injury, Malo Gusto was removed from the France Under-21 team. After undergoing an MRI, the 20-year-old defender’s results showed “a small lesion in the internal lateral ligament.”

Despite not being included in the squad for the match against Brighton, he was observed returning to Chelsea’s first team during practice prior to the match, indicating that he might be available for selection shortly.

Benjamin Chilwell
At the end of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Brighton at the end of September, Chilwell took a knock. Unfortunately, the Blues defender’s injury was not as minor as initially believed, and over a month has passed and he is still sidelined.

Pochettino stated: “It is impossible for me to predict [when he will return].” It is challenging to determine. He is currently outside the training area, and we will wait for him to return to assess the situation. I’m hoping for a quick recovery for him.”

Potential date of return: late December
