Following a contentious incident during their draw with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City has been charged by the Football Association; however, Erling Haaland has not been punished for his outburst at the referee.

Liverpool’s rivals for the title had to make do with a draw against Spurs after a late equalizer by Dejan Kulusevski at the Etihad. Despite the fact that the game was end-to-end, referee Simon Hooper’s decision in added time garnered the most attention.

After a foul on Haaland, Hooper had initially let play to continue. The striker came back to pass to Jack Grealish, who appeared to be heading straight for the goal, but the referee stopped play and awarded the free kick, much to the surprise of many Man City players.

Man City faces additional time charges from the FA for “failing to ensure their players behaved in a proper manner” during the incident. Whether City will contest the charge is unknown at this time.

One of the more outspoken City players to express his displeasure with Hooper’s choice was striker Haaland, who was clearly agitated when play resumed. Following the final whistle, Haaland bounded out of the tunnel and posted a “WTF” on social media. But the FA has stated that Haaland won’t face any more consequences for his remarks because they were judged to be in compliance with social media guidelines.

Considering that they are well-informed about the specific charges that followed Virgil van Dijk’s suspension for receiving a red card against Newcastle United earlier this season, Liverpool supporters might be curious to follow the case against City. After arguing with the referee and refusing to leave the field, the Reds captain was fined £100,000 for improper conduct and had an additional game added to his ban.
