Breaking News: Arsenal handed another Premier League points deduction boost over Liverpool as table reshuffles
Due to an Everton points deduction appeal, the Premier League standings have been rearranged, with Arsenal leading the field.
The likelihood of Arsenal winning the Premier League title has increased. Fans can expect thrilling matches when they play Manchester City and Liverpool in March.
Furthermore, the Premier League’s recent decision to alter point deductions may also be relevant.
Everton lost ten points in the previous season for violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules. The club was not pleased and attempted to have the ruling overturned, leaving everyone guessing as to what would happen.
An impartial appeals board declared on Monday that Everton would not drop as many points as originally anticipated. It will be six instead of ten.
According to football.london, the Premier League stated: “Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed against it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the breach, which the club admitted.”
They continued, saying: “The Appeal Board has maintained two of those nine grounds and replaced the initial 10 point deduction with six points. The Premier League table will be updated today to reflect the immediate impact of this revised sanction.”
According to the most recent results, Brentford has moved up to 15th place in the league, while Everton has surpassed Nottingham Forest to take 17th place. This change in the standings could drastically alter Arsenal’s situation.
Everton’s lower ranking provided Forest with a safety net in the past. However, now that Sean Dyche’s squad is ahead of them, Forest will be even more motivated to win every point possible.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will play Liverpool in their next game. Even though former Red Taiwo player Awoniyi scored a goal late in the game, Arsenal barely prevailed at Home.
Arsenal’s chances of winning the title were ended by a 1-0 loss to Steve Cooper’s team last season, while Manchester City dropped two points at Forest. Given Everton’s recent success, Arsenal will be hoping that this encourages Forest to steal points from Jurgen Klopp’s team. The City Ground is not an easy place to secure a win.
After that, Liverpool will play City, and Arsenal will play Brentford and Sheffield United. Should everything proceed according to plan, Arsenal may take the lead in the league for the first time this season after these games.
To give you an idea, City is scheduled to play Forest at the end of April, while Arsenal will not play Everton until the final game of the season.
