Bill Kenwright, the chairman of Everton, passed away at the age of 78. Surrounded by his loved ones and family, Kenwright departed from this life on Monday night.

Eight weeks ago, he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his liver.

Born and raised in Everton, Kenwright spent over thirty years on the Goodison Park board.

Six years after the Toffees won the FA Cup, in 1989, he was named a director of the team for the first time.

Kenwright took over as Everton’s chairman and largest shareholder in 2004.

During that time, the Blues won the FA Cup in 2009 and achieved their highest-ever Premier League fourth-place finish in 2004–04.

After Farhad Moshiri bought the first 49.9% of Everton in February 2016, Kenwright kept his job.

In addition, Kenwright was one of the most successful theatre producers in the United Kingdom.

He worked on London’s West End productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Whistle Down the Wind, and Blood Brothers, written by Willy Russell, a native of Merseyside.

“The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration,” an Everton statement read.

Everyone at Everton is thinking of and praying for his partner Jenny Seagrove, his daughter Lucy Kenwright, his grandchildren, and everyone else who knew and loved him.

Liverpool, Everton’s Merseyside rivals, have expressed their condolences and shown unity.

The club wrote, “Rest in peace, Bill Kenwright,” on their X account. Bill’s family, friends, and everyone at @Everton are in our thoughts and prayers here at Liverpool FC.
