BREAKING: Good news about Djed Spence as the Tottenham player aims to move past his difficult time at Leeds

Djed Spence is available for selection for Leeds United’s Wednesday night match against Swansea City, according to manager Daniel Farke.

The right-back for Tottenham, who joined fellow Spurs defender Joe Rodon at the Championship team, has had a nightmare through injuries. Early in September, the 23-year-old made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday, playing for nine minutes before a challenge in training caused lateral collateral ligament damage to his knee.

Spence was sidelined for eight weeks as a result, and he only started training again this month. During his press conference prior to the game on Tuesday afternoon, Farke stated that the youthful full-back was now one of the players who could play.

“After recovering from his injuries, Georginio [Rutter] is back to 100%. Likewise, with Liam Cooper. He hobbled off with some cramps, but he’s recovered enough in the last few days,” he said. “The players, like Djed Spence, Joe Gelhardt, and Jamie Shackleton, also benefit from having four or five more days on the training field. Pascal [Struijk] is also fortunate to have these training days. Remove all question marks. For the time being at least, everyone is available.

“Everything appeared to be in order during our session this morning. Everyone is currently fine, with the exception of the long-term injuries, and we have one more final session tomorrow morning.”

Spence played the second part of the previous season on loan at Rennes, where he had a strong start before losing his starting position due to a knee injury that ultimately ended his career. He didn’t play much in Ange Postecoglou’s preseason games for Tottenham before leaving for Leeds at the end of the summer transfer window.

After the draw at Rotherham last weekend, Farke had also given an update on Spence.

“It’s crucial that he receives training. He was only with us for two weeks and played just one competitive game before he had a tough spell that lasted eight weeks,” he stated.

“He needs to improve his endurance because there is legitimate competition for his position, and his last game was during the preseason with Tottenham. He has only been back in training for five days. Being injury-free and being prepared for the match are two different things. He is putting in a lot of effort at work.

“He requires a few more training days. It is nice to have him returned. Though I believe every training day will be helpful, it was evident to me that he would not be participating today.”

Now that he hasn’t played much football for just over a year, Spence will be looking to get back on track.
