Altay Bayindir was the big talking point during Man Utd vs Wigan, fans are genuinely gutted for him
The choice made by Erik ten Hag to start Andre Onana over Altay Bayindir in Monday night’s FA Cup third-round matchup against Wigan has generated a lot of discussion on the internet.
When Bayindir ($4.3 million) transferred from Fenerbahce to Manchester United in September, he became the first Turkish player in Manchester United history.
Naturally, Erik ten Hag brought in the 25-year-old to cover for Andre Onana, his first choice to take David de Gea’s place.
However, Bayindir hasn’t featured as much as many had anticipated. As they continue to struggle, the Turkey international hasn’t played a single minute of first-team football under Ten Hag.
The backup goalkeeper was named on the bench for their FA Cup match against League One team Wigan on Monday night, continuing the trend.
As he prepares to represent Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations, it is unclear if Onana will play for United in the upcoming weeks.
However, a lot of people are sympathetic to Bayindir and his predicament.
“Why did Erik ten Hag sign Altay Bayindir?” a fan asked in a comment. If he can’t even start him against League One Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. Thus far this season, 0 minutes. Bayindir needs to be calling his agent right now and asking him to arrange for a move out.”
Another said: “It’s not right that Erik Ten Hag is benching Altay Bayindir tonight; if you don’t trust him, then who will we play after Tottenham? One person said, “A penny for Altay Bayindir’s thoughts,” and another said, “He needs to at least get some minutes tonight.”
Another wrote: “Honestly if I was Altay Bayindir I would be outta here.. what was the point if we literally won’t give him a single minute on the pitch?”
Another replied, “I’m starting to debate as to whether Altay Bayindir is an actual person/player or not.”
