“Erik ten Hag made me cry yesterday because of his wrong lineups… Seeing such amazing talent on bench really broke me”: Man United legend Roy Keane reveals his emotional reaction to Man United’s starting lineup yesterday as he slam Erik ten Hag for benching Club’s ‘Game changer’
Roy Keane’s endorsement of Alejandro Garnacho has backfired since the start of the 2017 Premier League campaign.
The 20-year-old Argentina international scored in the Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City earlier this month, and the former Manchester United player is now a commentator. After 82 minutes at Wembley, the crafty winger handed United a startling lead with a solo goal. Cutting into the heart of the box, he slotted the ball hard and low past Ederson to demonstrate his fire power.
Seven minutes later, though, Bernardo Silva dashed United’s hopes when he beat Diogo Dalot at the back post and then nodded past Andre Onana to force penalties. Even though the Red Devils suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss on spot kicks, Keane didn’t hesitate to commend Garnacho for his performance that day.

Even though the Red Devils suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss on spot kicks, Keane didn’t hesitate to commend Garnacho for his performance that day.
The 53-year-old remarked, “I tell you what all the really good players do,” in an interview with ITV. The very best players have an impact on the game, and each and every time they step onto the football pitch, they make an effort. He interrupts with a sweet little finish. Now that he’s on the pitch, I kind of anticipate this from him.
You anticipated that he would produce something. You anticipated that he would make an impact. It is not a good idea for a defender to mark him since he will try to run at you and cause trouble. Keane will likely be regretting his remarks right now, though, as Garnacho has had a difficult start to the 2024–25 Premier League season.
Even though the Argentinean scored ten goals for United the previous season, he has wasted chances this season in both of his league appearances as a substitute. Although he played a crucial role in Joshua Zirkzee’s goal in United’s opening match against Fulham, putting the ball in the heart of the box for the summer addition to tap in, he missed a clear opportunity to double United’s lead seconds later.
In the last seconds of the match, Marcus Rashford scored a goal with a breakaway before squareing the ball to an unmarked Garnacho, who had an open goal to shoot at. Football fans were rooting for the young player to make it 2-0, but he disappointingly scuffed the ball with his left foot, sending it well wide of the post.
Exclaiming, “What a mess that is for Fulham and [Calvin] Bassey, but also for Garnacho – thinking that Rashford must pass it,” Gary Neville lost all composure while providing commentary. When he does, oh dear.
Unbelievably, Garnacho would also have a terrible performance in United’s match on Saturday, August 24, at the AMEX Stadium against Brighton and Hove Albion. After Kaoru Mitoma’s tap-in goal from the middle of the box put Brighton ahead 1-0, Danny Welbeck levelled in the second half.
