Despite reports of interest from Newcastle and Liverpool in star defender Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace has remained strong thus far, although they have hinted at the Englishman’s future.

According to reports, Crystal Palace plans to sign two new centre backs, which could open the door for Marc Guehi, who is being pursued by Liverpool and Newcastle, to go.

The 24-year-old defender Guehi was linked to a move away from Selhurst Park as soon as he made an impression for England at Euro 2024. Newcastle and Arne Slot’s Reds were said to be interested, with the Magpies emerging as the clear favourites.

According to reports, Eddie Howe’s team has made four proposals, the most recent of which was for £65 million, but the Eagles have refused to drop their asking price of £70 million. The transaction is made more difficult by the fact that Joachim Anderson, another Palace defender, is close to joining Fulham for a fee of £30 million.

But the south London team is rumoured to have made offers for two elite centre halves, Maxence Lacroix of Wolfburg and Tomas Araujo of Benfica. This implies that, should Guehi agree to a move to Newcastle or another suitor, they would theoretically have backups available for both Andersen and Guehi.

After Andersen’s potential transfer was approved, a formal offer for Portuguese star Araujo and a £12 million proposal for French defender Lacroix—who has just one year left on his present contract—were made, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Palace’s intentions are very apparent, even though neither transaction has been announced yet. It appears that the team is preparing for the chance that their star defender may leave this window.

Regarding Guehi’s future, Glasner told The Athletic, “There will be an amount of money, like there is in sport, and then I have to agree and find a replacement.”

However, it isn’t the situation right now. Do you know who is most crucial? Marc by himself. Marc might respond, “I don’t care,” even if Newcastle and Crystal Palace manage to come to an understanding. I’m not as concerned.
