Mikel Arteta might never use £50m Arsenal star again after this weekend
Arsenal will face Brentford in the upcoming Premier League match, and it is possible that Aaron Ramsdale will make his last appearance for the club during this game.
Mikel Arteta has successfully made significant choices this season, one of which involved replacing Ramsdale with David Raya as his first-choice goalkeeper. The latter is not eligible to participate in the game against the Bees on Saturday.
Arsenal acquired the services of Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United during the summer of 2021 in a £30 million transaction, as reported by Sky Sports.
Several individuals opposed this decision because to their skepticism on his suitability for Arsenal, given his consecutive relegations in the previous two seasons. Mikel Arteta, however, firmly believed that Ramsdale was the ideal choice, and he successfully completed the acquisition.
The Englishman swiftly gained popularity among fans at the Emirates and shown exceptional performance. He was widely considered to be the top goalkeeper in the Premier League last season and was even selected for the PFA Team of the Season.
Ramsdale has experienced a decline in his performance this season. He was omitted from the team following the international hiatus in September and has only made one appearance in the Premier League since then — against Brentford in November.
Currently, the Bees will be visiting the Emirates stadium, and Ramsdale will once again be the starting goalkeeper for Arsenal. This is because David Raya is unable to play against Brentford, as they are his parent club.
It is anticipated that this will be Ramsdale’s last game wearing an Arsenal jersey, as Raya is projected to participate in the remaining matches of this season starting from the upcoming weekend. Additionally, it is predicted that Ramsdale, who is English, will depart in the summer.
Aaron Ramsdale is widely regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League, with some individuals even asserting that he surpasses David Raya in skill and ability. His exceptional skills make it unjustifiable for him to remain on the sidelines week after week.
Nevertheless, Raya currently holds the position as Arsenal’s unequivocal first-choice goalkeeper, and his temporary transfer from Brentford will be converted into a permanent one during the summer. It is quite improbable that he will be replaced on the team.
Therefore, Ramsdale is expected to assess his choices, and there have been speculations suggesting that clubs such as Newcastle United and Chelsea have shown interest in acquiring the services of the goalkeeper, who is valued at £50 million.
Arsenal supporters have a strong affection for Ramsdale, and it would be truly painful to witness his departure. Nevertheless, it is possible that this could be the most advantageous outcome for all individuals concerned.
