BREAKING NEWS: David Raya won’t be playing for Arsenal against Brentford when Aaron Ramsdale is expected to start
Though he has made the number one shirt his own since joining Arsenal at the end of the summer transfer window, David Raya will not be playing for Arsenal against Brentford this coming weekend.
After dethroning Aaron Ramsdale from a starting spot for Arsenal, David Raya has taken over the goalkeeping role; however, he will be unable to play against Brentford.
On deadline day, Raya joined the Gunners and quickly established himself, missing just one match in the Premier League and the Champions League combined. His play, along with others’, has propelled Arsenal through their continental group and to within one point of the league’s summit.
However, Raya will be unable to play against Brentford as Ramsdale tries to make his way back into the starting lineup. Football.london examines the reasons behind that.
What prevents David Raya from playing against Brentford?
The Spaniard joined Arsenal in the summer on a loan-to-buy deal. The Gunners were willing to pay the £27 million plus £3 million in add-ons in order to finalize a deal.
A loan-to-buy deal, however, has a problem because Raya is technically still a Brentford player even though he is currently on loan at Arsenal. Raya won’t be able to replace him in goal in west London until the summer window, which means that loan players won’t be allowed to play in the Premier League against their parent clubs.
What’s new regarding David Raya’s potential future at Arsenal?
According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday afternoon, Emirates executives initiated the £27 million buy offer, and Arsenal had decided to finalize the deal for Raya in the summer. According to Romano, Raya has already signed a long-term deal that will make him an Arsenal player come summertime.
How many games has Aaron Ramsdale played for Arsenal this year?
Ramsdale was Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper this season until Raya was brought in for the team’s victory against Everton in mid-September, even though Raya hadn’t done anything particularly wrong.
Since then, Ramsdale hasn’t played a minute in the league. Instead, he has started for England at Hampden Park in the 3-1 victory over Scotland, as well as in the cup against Brentford and West Ham. His place in the England team could be in jeopardy if he doesn’t start getting first-team minutes at the Emirates Stadium, casting doubt on his future.
