Internal discussions are taking place at Manchester United regarding the possibility of acquiring Dutch forward Donyell Malen in the January transfer window.

Malen, 24, is a football player for Borussia Dortmund in Germany and has five goals so far this year.

The former PSV forward is well-known in England, where he has recently been watched by Tottenham and Arsenal.

Nevertheless, United believe they have a chance to sign Malen right now, and rumors have it that they are thinking about doing a loan to buy arrangement.

Donyell Malen is a potential signing for Manchester United.
Football Transfers claims that United is interested in Malen and that the board is debating making a move for the striker.

This month, the new part-owners INEOS hope to finance a few new signings; however, because of FFP restrictions, loan deals are preferred.

The United board is reportedly having “intense” talks about signing the Dutchman, and United may approach Dortmund about a deal.

Naturally, Dortmund wouldn’t want to see Malen go.

But, the Red Devils’ desire to sign Jadon Sancho from United may factor into this, as they may be trying to build a strong rapport and acquire Malen as a sweetener.

Not the solution
Like many of the recent additions to Manchester United, it’s difficult to argue that Donyell Malen is the answer to every problem.

Since he signed, his goal total in Germany hasn’t exactly blown everyone away. In fact, he hasn’t even reached double digits in the previous two campaigns.

Indeed, Malen is capable of joining United at this moment and performing admirably. He is an additional choice, and Erik ten Hag does have more options now that Sancho is going and Anthony Martial is coming too. Mario Gotze has previously praised him as “extremely fast,” demonstrating his explosive pace.

So that United can look into it, a loan might make sense. Ultimately, when Arsenal sold him back in 2017, they believed he was only worth £500,000.
