What Bruno Fernandes said to Newport star after his goal against Man Utd speaks volumes

During last month’s FA Cup fourth round match, Newport County star Will Evans received a clear message from Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

At Rodney Parade, Erik ten Hag’s team prevailed 4-2, but it wasn’t easy going.

After just 13 minutes, goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Fernandes seemed to put United ahead.

The Red Devils were unsettled by a deflected effort by Bryn Morris prior to halftime, and Evans equalized from close range two minutes later.

The League Two team held their own for twenty minutes before Luke Shaw’s effort struck the bar and Antony scored his first goal of the year to give United the lead again.

In injury time, Rasmus Hojlund added a fourth goal to save face for the opposition.

On GoalpostsTV, Evans talked about facing the greatest football players in the world, especially Fernandes.

He acknowledged that a number of Liverpool supporters among the Newport group were eager to see Fernandes and Antony, but Evans was pleasantly surprised by the former’s demeanor.

The 26-year-old said, “Obviously, we have a few Liverpool fans in our team as well.”

We’re expressing our excitement about meeting Antony or Bruno, and everyone left the pitch with the same impression of each of them.

Saying they’re the most sincere, but in reality, they’re just regular guys. As I was sprinting back after scoring my goal, Bruno gave me a pat on the back and said, “Nice finish, buddy.”

“Regarding Bryn Morris’ goal, he stated in his post-game interview that “the boy scored a brilliant strike [unbelievable shot] just before half-time.” You also believe that he didn’t need to say that.

Evans went on to say that during the game, United full-back Diogo Dalot most impressed him.

“Dalot [impressed me the most],” he went on. I was watching a ball that passed over my head that was probably chest height when I noticed him standing in front of me.

And he simply backheeled it back to the keeper while it was in the air. And I simply wondered, what? What chance do I have left?

“Plus, he moves quickly. He moves like lightning. It did not surprise me. He was crazy for me, and as you said, you’re not surprised by that.”

On February 28, United will play Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round.
