‘We will pursue him’ – Club chief makes transfer promise as Liverpool star addresses future
Liverpool’s young player Fábio Carvalho has not dismissed the possibility of leaving in the summer, while Hull City aims to retain him if they get promotion to the Premier League. The 21-year-old player signed with the Championship team in January following a challenging period at RB Leipzig, where he only started three matches.
Carvalho’s playing time was restricted at Liverpool last season, prompting a decision that a temporary transfer would benefit his progress. He has made a strong impression since he joined Hull and has scored three goals in nine matches for the club.
Hull has only been defeated in two out of its previous nine matches in the Championship, positioning itself back into play-off contention. The future of his tenure at Anfield is in doubt, as Liverpool’s upcoming manager is expected to evaluate the existing players on loan throughout the summer.
Carvalho maintains that he is currently not considering leaving Liverpool and is concentrating on playing for Hull. “I want to focus on my current location, Hull, and accept whatever unfolds,” he stated to i sport. “I will accept any changes that come my way and trust in God’s guidance for my path.”
Hull is keen on retaining the Portugal Under-21s player but anticipates that Liverpool will want for a substantial price for the player. Liverpool paid $6.4 million (£5 million/€5.9 million) to acquire Carvalho from Fulham in 2022.
Hull’s executive vice chairman, Tan Kesler, stated that the player receives a wage at the level of the Premier League, and Liverpool will want for a significant transfer fee for him. If there are no Financial Fair Play restrictions, the chairman would eagerly sign Fábio without hesitation.
If we get promoted, we would definitely pursue him due to the financial benefits. We plan to invest those funds in players like Fábio. Some of our supporters may have unrealistic expectations, but we remain quite positive. If any of these events occur, we will take action because he is a candidate we are interested in retaining for an extended period.
According to Liverpool.com, Carvalho has recovered from a challenging period at Leipzig and has been performing exceptionally well since transferring to Hull. It was crucial for him to receive ample playing experience this season outside of Anfield. Klopp’s exit is expected to bring a new beginning for Liverpool’s loaned players in the summer. It is uncertain if Carvalho will align with the incoming manager’s ideas, but he will have other alternatives if he decides to pursue a long-term agreement elsewhere.
