The second goal that Manchester United scored against Brighton was disallowed due to a spectacular offside violation.

On minute 70, Alejandro Garnacho appeared at the back post to tap in a cross from Bruno Fernandes, giving United the impression that they had seized a 2-1 lead.

For the second time in a week, the Argentinian came off the bench to celebrate after claiming the goal, and his teammates followed suit.

The ball did, however, take a touch off Joshua Zirkzee, another substitute; the question is whether the Dutchman touched it before it crossed the line.

Replays in slow motion demonstrated that Zirkzee’s knee was within a hair’s breadth of the line.

To make matters worse, VAR had to declare him offside and nullify the goal because he was just ahead of Garnacho when he took the shot.

“The VAR suggested that the goal be disallowed after examining Zirkzee for possible offside. Play was resumed by the referee with a Brighton free-kick.

Former United striker Danny Welbeck scored his 100th goal in a career goal to put Erik ten Hag’s team behind early in the first half.

Amad Daillo, who was starting in the Premier League for the first time this season, then gave United the equaliser.

However, Joao Pedro headed the ball into the bottom left corner past Andre Onana after being left unmarked in the penalty box by a Brighton cross, causing Ten Hag and United to suffer a late heartbreak.
