Given how hard Sir Jim Ratcliffe has worked to cut costs over the last few months, Manchester United fans are not expecting a lot from the January transfer window.

In recent years, the Red Devils haven’t had much going on during the winter window. This is mostly because they don’t have much money left over after their summer spending spree.

It has to be this year if there is only one chance for things to change. United will end the 2024 season in 14th place, having lost nine games in the first half of the season. They also broke the record for most league losses in a month, which had been set in September 1962 and stood for 62 years. So, INEOS may need to bring in more people next month.

Casemiro wants to leave Old Trafford in January

One way to make it easy for money to come in is to make sales first. Marcus Rashford’s future at Old Trafford is still pretty uncertain. He was in the matchday squad last night for the first time in four games, but he didn’t play; his last start was on December 12.

Also, UOL Esporte reported on Monday that Casemiro has “agreed to leave” United in the next few weeks because he is wanted by teams in the Saudi Pro League. Without a doubt, the owners would want to allow him to leave and take out his £350,000-a-week salary at the same time.

The Brazilian made a rare start against Newcastle United because Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte were not available. However, he looked like a shell of the tough player he used to be, as has been the case so many times in the last year.
