Tensions boiled over at Comerica Park as Tigers shortstop Javier Báez was ejected from Monday night’s game

after a heated confrontation with home plate umpire following a controversial strikeout call.

The incident occurred in the sixth inning when Báez was rung up on a borderline pitch. Clearly frustrated, the two-time All-Star immediately turned toward the umpire, shouting in protest. Moments later, Báez charged toward the plate, prompting the umpire to eject him on the spot. Teammates and coaches rushed in to separate the two before the situation escalated further.

“It’s about respect,” Báez said in the clubhouse after the game. “I’ve been in this league a long time, and I know when a pitch is off. I let my emotions get the best of me, but I felt I had to stand up for myself.”

Manager A.J. Hinch backed his player while also acknowledging the need for composure: “Javy’s a competitor, and sometimes that fire spills over. We’ll handle this internally and move forward.”

MLB is expected to review the incident for possible disciplinary action. The Tigers, already battling injuries and inconsistency, may have to prepare for a potential suspension of one of their most dynamic players.
