OFFICIAL NOW: Man United completes the signing of £50m most sought after player in Europe, Negotiation have been ongoing for weeks now and now is a done deal,5yr contract signed – Medical today
OFFICIAL NOW: Man United signs the most sought-after player in Europe for £50 million. After weeks of negotiations, a five-year contract has been inked, and today is the player’s medical.
Since the beginning of the summer, it has been abundantly evident that Man Utd wants to buy a new defensive midfield player. Although it first appeared that they intended to bring in a replacement for Casemiro this summer, the Brazilian appears to be staying with the team and is off to a great start to the season.
Casemiro may still have one more season at the top level in him, but it would be prudent for Manchester United to begin planning for their succession this summer by adding a young defensive midfield player.
The Uruguayan player Manuel Ugarte, who is keen to join the Red Devils at Old Trafford, has been heavily linked to PSG.
Even if they don’t want the 23-year-old in their lineup, the Ligue 1 powerhouses are making discussions challenging, which is forcing Man Utd to consider other choices. Ederson of Atlanta is one player they have identified for the part.
The Serie A club values the 25-year-old Brazilian at approximately £46.8 million, and he may be considered as Ugarte’s backup at number six.
He just finished a fantastic season at Atalanta, where he played a key role in the team’s push to win the Europa League.
In several aspects, Ederson seems more fitting at Manchester United than Ugarte. He can fit in at the club with the support of Brazilians like Casemiro and Antony. He can also pick up trade secrets from the Real Madrid icon in the interim.
Ederson is 25 years old, so it’s not too soon to ask if he’s ready for the Premier League or if he’s reached his prime. Man Utd would be foolish to pass on this talented Brazilian if they wanted to bring him to the first team.
While Ederson may have a higher ceiling than Ugarte, the Brazilian is more prepared to face the Premier League head-on right now. In the end, it all depends on whether Casemiro departs this summer.
Man Utd can rely on 23-year-old Ugarte to step up and learn from the experienced player if the 32-year-old stays put. However, Ederson is a better choice to take his place and aid the squad right away if he were to depart this summer. Watch how the club assesses this and who they ultimately target in the end.
