Sunday morning deal: Chelsea will defeat Liverpool with the verbal agreement to purchase a £50 million defender; he will have a physical on Monday.

According to reports, Chelsea has renewed their interest in recruiting Joe Gomez, a defender for Liverpool who was previously left behind when the team travelled to Portman Road for their Premier League matches.

Newcastle has been working on completing the transfer in the meanwhile, but given that the Magpies are already working on balancing the record book, it appears the manager was waiting for a potential suitor who could complete the move before the window closes.

Since Liverpool manager Arne Slot has previously expressed interest in letting Chelsea sign the player before Newcastle, Chelsea has emerged as the team that has been waiting the longest to entice the player.

Liverpool values Gomez at £45 million, and it would appear that would at least generate more rumours prior to a potential transfer, since the Blues need to make up for the record £54 million they paid for Pedro Neto, who just joined the team last week.

Aston Villa, Fulham, clubs from overseas, and Chelsea are among the clubs that have expressed interest in Gomez; Eddie Howe’s team is still interested in Chelsea.

Gomez is thinking about his future on Merseyside and whether it’s time to move on to a new project where he can play in the first team more frequently.

In order to face Ipswich, Arne Slot started Jarell Quansah alongside Virgil van Dijk in the starting lineup, with the academy product exerting increasing pressure at the back.

Another alternative at the back is Ibrahima Konate, who was included among the substitutes today.

During their earlier summer talks with Newcastle, Liverpool valued Gomez at £45 million.

Since then, the Magpies have focused on Marc Guehi, a standout player for Crystal Palace. However, their attempts to recruit the Londoner have been unsuccessful thus far, as Palace has turned down four bids for the player, the most recent of which is thought to be worth £65 million.

Slot will reintegrate Gomez into the team if he decides to stay this month.

Peter Crouch, a former striker for Liverpool, expressed shock at what happened on Saturday. “Having him around the squad is a great man,” he remarked.

He has done a fantastic job for himself, but perhaps he has made the decision to move on. Take a look at the injuries from the previous season; guys had to step in and cover.

The Liverpool team still needs to add a significant player this summer, and Slot will be managing the same team that Jurgen Klopp left behind.

Their top summer target was Martin Zubimendi, a midfielder for Real Sociedad, but the Spain international turned down a move to Anfield last week.
