Although Manchester United was interested in signing him, we responded to the transfer so quickly that I’m grateful the board didn’t let my rivals make fun of me. After the player’s medical clearance to join City today, Pep Guardiola responds to the most recent Man United transfer news.

Divin Mubama, a forward for West Ham United, is expected to sign for Manchester City after his contract expired earlier this summer, according to The Athletic.

The 19-year-old, who had strong ties to Everton, West Brom, and Sunderland, left the Hammers after refusing to sign a new contract over disagreements regarding his playing time going forward. He will now likely train primarily with City’s Under-21 team but will also spend time with Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup. Although Lyon and Famalicão were also considering hiring him, City emerged victorious in the competition.

Because Mubama left West Ham before turning 24, City will have to pay a “transfer fee” for him, which means they will get paid. Under David Moyes, Mubama made 12 appearances across all competitions last year. He demonstrated his talent as a member of West Ham’s FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2023.

In the semi-final matchup with Southampton, Mubama scored a hat-trick. He went on to score eight goals to finish as the competition’s top scorer, earning him the title of club’s 2022–2023 young player of the year.

In other news, City will approve Kalvin Phillips’ loan to the recently promoted Ipswich Town team as the 29-year-old looks to leave the Etihad Stadium permanently.

After spent the second part of the previous season at West Ham, where he made just 10 appearances across all competitions, Phillip will be spending his second loan spell away from City. The player has struggled with injuries and poor performance during his two years under Pep Guardiola, which has prevented him from “paying back” the majority of the £42 million that was spent on him when he moved from Leeds United.

Guardiola’s remarks that the England international was “overweight” upon returning from the 2022 World Cup, which greatly infuriated Phillips and for which he later issued an apology earlier this year, have also cast doubt on Phillips and Guardiola’s relationship.

Despite everything, Phillips now appears destined to play a significant role for Kieran McKenna’s team at Portman Road as the Tractor Boys attempt to avoid relegation in their first Premier League campaign since 2002. Deal purports to have no purchase obligation.
