Harvey Elliott, a teenage player for Liverpool, contributed to yesterday’s crucial Merseyside Derby victory over Everton.

After the international break, the 20-year-old celebrated the Reds’ successful return to action by posting to social media.

Harvey Elliott had a fruitful hiatus from domestic football.

Following his contribution to England’s Under-21 squad’s summer Euro victory, he will lead the squad in their upcoming campaign as captain.

For the most part this season, he has been used as a substitute for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, and yesterday was no different.

Ashley Young received two yellow cards in the first half, reducing Everton to ten men. However, Liverpool were unable to score, so Klopp substituted Elliott and Darwin Nunez.

Although he didn’t have much of an impact throughout the game, Mohamed Salah was there to score a penalty kick when Michael Keane was sent off for a handball in the penalty area.

After pounced on a late counterattack set up by Nunez, he doubled Liverpool’s lead in the dying moments of the game.

After coming on as a substitute for Ryan Gravenberch, Elliott did his job in the middle of the field and brought some much-needed energy.

His right-wing partnership with Salah is steadily improving, and he may have given Klopp something to consider in advance of Thursday’s Europa League match.

The Liverpool vs. Everton match is altered by Elliott.
Elliott praised their derby victory and wrote, “Our city” in an Instagram post following the game. Take it easy, reds!

Yesterday, Mac Allister posted a wand emoji to imply that Elliott possessed magical powers, while fellow student Tyler Morton merely wrote “Proud.”

After the game, Rio Ferdinand concurred with Cody Gakpo that the £4.3 million midfielder was outstanding. Gakpo felt the same way.

Despite Liverpool’s inconsistency, they have managed to stay in touch with the league leaders.

Klopp will take heart from Elliott and Liverpool’s grit in beating Everton yesterday, even though they weren’t playing their best.

Luis Diaz and the like will be able to step up when Salah isn’t playing well, and Arsenal losing will give them confidence.

Before their match against Manchester City at the month’s end, they have a respectable run of fixtures ahead of them. That match will determine whether they are title contenders.
