Before the transfer window ends, Manchester United is still trying to finalise a big deal, but there’s a good chance that the particular player should be cautious about joining Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

If Scott McTominay departs Manchester United, it could be advisable for him to exercise caution regarding a possible transfer to Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

After Fulham’s interest, the Red Devils midfielder has once again been linked to leaving Old Trafford, and the Serie A heavyweights are reportedly desperate to land him. The Manchester Evening News, however, has revealed that the Scotland international’s time under Conte could not be easy.

That comes after reports of dissension in Conte’s Chelsea and Tottenham squads marred his stay in England. Conte is 55 years old. The Italian was Spurs’ manager until March 2023, but he departed the club in disgrace after publicly insulting his players after a 3–3 tie with Southampton.

The Guardian revealed shortly before his departure that some Tottenham players were desperate for Conte to go. Many players reportedly wanted him fired because of what they saw as his disrespectful behaviour in the locker room.

Not only did his players oppose him in north London, but there were also rumours of dissatisfaction within the Stamford Bridge team. The Sun said that after winning the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2017, certain Blues players were exhausted after the coach’s renownedly demanding training regimens.

“There’s a lot of b******t around us,” Conte told reporters in a frank manner at the time, putting an end to the rumours. “I see that many managers have experienced the same thing in the past. A whole bunch of b******t. They attempt to sow discord between the players, the club, and me.”

There are less than seven days remaining in the transfer window, so McTominay will likely have to make a big choice over his future at United. According to reports, the £30 million-rated midfield player wants to remain at the team he has played for since he was a little child, but sources suggest United may be willing to cash in to increase their recruitment budget.

The player only has one year left on his current United contract, though there is an option to extend it by one, which would allow for a loan with an option or obligation to buy deal. This could complicate Napoli’s interest in loaning McTominay, according to The Times. Meanwhile, there are whispers circulating that McTominay would be part of a trade to acquire Manuel Ugarte of PSG.

McTominay’s career would undergo a dramatic shift and a major change of scenery if he were to move to Italy. The experiences of his Premier League opponents, though, would imply that joining Conte’s squad at Napoli has its own set of difficulties.
