Man Utd submit opening offer for £69m star as ETH looks to land exciting midfielder
Man Utd offers Morten Hjulmand, a star at Sporting, a contract.
According to The Sun, Manchester United has formally proposed to sign Morten Hjulmand of Sporting CP.
Last summer, the Red Devils made the decision to bolster their engine room by adding Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat. But this season at Old Trafford, neither of them has been able to put on their best display.
Furthermore, Casemiro has had difficulty reproducing the form he showed last season prior to suffering a hamstring injury this season. There are even rumors that the all-time Premier League winners are prepared to cash in on the Brazilian and cut him out of their payroll.
Therefore, it seems that Man Utd has begun looking into options on the market in case they decide to sell Casemiro this summer. Amadou Onana is one of the midfield players who have recently been connected to a transfer to Old Trafford, but Hjulmand is starting to show promise.
Man Utd has reportedly been keeping an eye on the Dane’s progress, and after being pleased with his performances, United has made a formal bid to buy him, according to a report published in The Sun.
Hjulmand to Manchester United
The report also states that in order to sign Hjulmand, the Red Devils have suggested a trade that would include Facundo Pellistri. Sporting, however, turned down the offer since they won’t allow their star player to depart until his £69 million release clause is activated.
According to The Sun, Christian Eriksen serves as Hjulmand’s coach on the national team, meaning Man Utd might be able to convince the 24-year-old to relocate to Old Trafford so he can play with his countryman.
Hjulmand, who moved from Lecce to the Jose Alvalade Stadium last summer, has established himself as a vital component of Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven this season, aiding his team in mounting a title challenge.
Given his skill, Hjulmand might be the best player available in Erik ten Hag’s possession-based scheme. Therefore, if Man Utd were to sign him in January or the summer of next year, it would be a wise move. It will be interesting to watch if Man Utd decides to strengthen their engine room this year by acquiring Hjulmand.
