Man Utd legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes agree on Erik ten Hag January transfer priority

With 18 goals in 17 games this season, Manchester United is the sixth-lowest scoring team in the Premier League; Manchester City has scored more than twice as many.

Given their terrible record, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes have both pushed Erik ten Hag to address Manchester United’s primary problem, which is just scoring goals.

This season, only five teams have scored fewer goals in the Premier League (18) than United; Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace are tied at 17. When it comes to goals scored from 17 games, Manchester City leads the division with 40, followed by Aston Villa (37), Liverpool (36), and Newcastle (36).

Even though United spent £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund during the summer, their lack of offensive punch in the closing third and goal-scoring record are concerning. Actually, it was back in May when a recognized attacker last scored for United at Old Trafford in the Premier League. With just two goals on the road this season, even Marcus Rashford has yet to score in the league at home.

In the Champions League, United’s goal scoring record did not significantly improve, but it was still insufficient to advance out of their group. With six goals across all competitions, Scott McTominay leads United’s scorers, followed by Bruno Fernandes and Hojlund with five each.

Speaking following United’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool, former Red Devils midfielder Keane emphasized how urgently Erik ten Hag needs to address that problem. “We get stats thrown at us every single week, they’re never good stats to look at but they have to turn up as a team,” Keane stated to Sky Sports. “Man United just seems to be having problems, whether it’s injuries or something else entirely, and people are trying to find solutions outside of the team.

They sometimes have to look in the dressing room for the answers, and that’s where they have to look. The absence of goals is my biggest concern, as I find it hard to believe they will come here and win today. This team’s inability to score goals is a serious issue.”

Scholes also emphasized that United needs to address their goal-scoring issues after their Champions League loss to Bayern Munich earlier this month. He said to TNT Sports, “The center forward has got to be my biggest concern.”

“A chance cannot be created. He has five goals in the Champions League, but he hasn’t scored any goals in the league. He didn’t have a chance to score tonight, and I don’t think he did on Saturday [against Bournemouth]. Where goals will come from is a major concern.”

In January, Ten Hag might look to add a new center forward, with Serhou Guirassy, a rising star in the Bundesliga, being linked to a move to the Red Devils. In just 14 appearances, Guirassy, 27, has scored an incredible 17 goals, placing him second in the German top tier goalscoring charts behind Harry Kane.
