Following the historic court decision on Thursday, the European Super League has newfound hope, and Manchester United has now stated their position on new proposals.

Following the historic court decision regarding the European Super League, Manchester United has reiterated their dedication to UEFA.

The European Court of Justice’s decision on Thursday that UEFA and FIFA’s prohibition on breakaway leagues violates EU law gave the competition new life. Since then, the European Super League’s organizers have unveiled a new format for their recently established league.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have both supported it. Using the hashtag #EarnItOnThePitch, the majority of their La Liga counterparts have already denounced the plans on social media, and reports indicate that German clubs have declined to participate.

Man United has now stated their position after having previously been involved in the initial scheme that was verified in 2021. They were forced to withdraw along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham due to intense fan backlash.

A statement from the club said: “We still stand by our position. We are steadfastly dedicated to competing in UEFA events and fostering constructive relationships through the ECA with UEFA, the Premier League, and other clubs to advance the European game.”

The Red Devils’ choice was made during a tumultuous time at Old Trafford. Following Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s withdrawal from the takeover competition, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still in the running to purchase 25% of the team.

Protesters against the Glazers’ contentious ownership are still going strong. The presidents of Real Madrid and Barcelona, Florentino Perez and Joan Laporta, have already endorsed the new proposals elsewhere.

Bayern Munich, the German champions, will not be participating, though. An “attack on the importance of the national leagues and the structure of European football” is what Jan Christian Dreesen, CEO of Bayern and Vice-Chairman of the European Club Association, called any proposal for an ESL. He emphasized Bayern’s dedication to UEFA as well.

The most recent proposals for the European Super League differ significantly from the initial ones. The 64 teams in the “new” European Super League will be divided into three divisions, with promotion, relegation, and knockout stages to determine the league’s champion.

Clubs will be chosen using “an index of transparent, performances-based criteria” to determine who will compete in the competition’s first year.

In the interim, every match would be available to watch for free on the Unify streaming service. Bernd Reichard, CEO of A22 Sports, declared following the decision on Thursday, “We have won the right to compete.” The monopoly of UEFA has ended. Soccer is a free sport.

Clubs are no longer under threat of sanctions AND have the freedom to choose their own course in life. For supporters: We suggest that all Super League games be viewed for free. For clubs: We’ll ensure revenue and spending on solidarity.”
