Man Utd chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Mason Greenwood ‘return stance’ decides January U-turn
Regarding Mason Greenwood’s future with Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe must make a significant choice.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s lax attitude about Mason Greenwood’s future means that Manchester United won’t be going back on his word and recalling him during the January transfer window, sources say. One of INEOS’s first significant choices after the Premier League approves the £1.3 billion deal for a 25% share in the team will be whether or not to bring back Greenwood.
The Glazer family is expected to transfer sporting control to Ratcliffe and INEOS when the Premier League approves his investment, which is anticipated to happen next month.
Up until that point, the 71-year-old has begun getting ready in meetings at United’s Carrington training facility and Old Trafford.
Since the club announced the agreement on Boxing Day through Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, INEOS has also been present at all three games.
However, decisions made by United’s new sporting organization won’t be implemented until the agreement has been formally approved.
When that moment comes, Ratcliffe and his closest friends will have to decide how to handle Greenwood’s future in the wake of the uproar his return last year caused.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that despite the 22-year-old forward’s impressive performances while on loan at Getafe, a final decision will not be made this month.
Greenwood reportedly made his home at the La Liga team, where he was sent on deadline day in the summer after the return plan of the now-departed chief executive Richard Arnold was thwarted by both internal and external backlash.
According to Jacobs, the sensitive nature of the matter makes it unlikely that any clarity on the situation will emerge until later in the year, eliminating the possibility of anyone making a decision at this early stage.
According to reports, Ratcliffe is aware of and respects United’s six-month investigation into Greenwood, which began in February of last year when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges against him for attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior.
He reportedly knows that a number of employees expressed concerns about the former Red Devils No. 11 coming back to Carrington.
When it was announced last summer that Greenwood would be pursuing his career elsewhere, United officially stated that they did not anticipate having him play for the team ever again.
Ratcliffe hasn’t talked about shifting that position, Jacobs continues, and any decision to do so would need support from the club’s non-sporting division.
Arnold was glad to finish the investigation into Greenwood’s arrest in January 2022, as expressed by the Glazer family.
However, if Greenwood’s comeback is on the schedule once more this summer, the American owners and other board members will probably need to offer their opinions.
