Man United receive massive boost as Borussia Dortmund could be forced to sell €40m striker to Man Utd for bargain fee this summer amid strong Liverpool links
Reports indicate that Borussia Dortmund will sell Donyell Malen this summer at a reduced price, making him an attractive target for Manchester United and Liverpool.
The 25-year-old player has had a successful season with BVB, scoring 10 goals in the Bundesliga and also scoring in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match against his former side, PSV.
Dortmund’s recent performance has somewhat declined, causing them to drop to fourth place in the standings. They are now competing with RB Leipzig to clinch a spot in the Champions League, putting pressure on manager Edin Terzic.
Malen has been a reliable player for the club, sometimes the only source of creativity in the attacking position. However, SportBild has reported that he might have to be sold this summer.
Dortmund has frequently sold its top players for profit, but currently, they do not have any exceptional players attracting interest from top European clubs.
In the past, they have generated substantial revenue by selling Ousmane Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, and Erling Haaland. However, this time, they will need to employ more innovative strategies.
They are experiencing a significant departure of players, including Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, and Marius Wolf, who are out of contract, as well as loanees Sancho and Ian Maatsen, who are anticipated to go back to their original clubs.
Donyell Malen is a striker for Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund still have money left from last summer’s Bellingham deal, but they will need to sell Malen—and possibly Sebastien Haller as well—to increase their financial resources.
BVB aims to recruit elite young talent to sell for higher fees in the future, notwithstanding the good performances of both forwards this season.
Manchester United have had a longstanding interest in Malen and were previously connected to a swap deal involving the Dutchman and Sancho. However, Sancho ultimately headed to Germany on a straightforward loan deal.
Dortmund is now willing to let Malen depart and will accept a transfer fee of €40 million (£34 million).
Malen recently changed representatives to Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), the agency that helped Ramus Hojlund transfer to Old Trafford and also manages Erik ten Hag.
The United manager is said to highly appreciate Malen and has been monitoring him for a while, especially since the forward performed well at PSV while Ten Hag was the Ajax manager.
Liverpool is reportedly interested in Malen and aims to strengthen their attacking choices this summer, as per SportBild.
Malen, a former Arsenal player, is interested in transferring to the Premier League. However, the possibility of him joining United depends on whether Ten Hag receives support from Ineos.
