When Kobbie Mainoo was assessed in November 2022 at a mere £257,000, his transfer value soared.

Having made nine appearances for Manchester United this season, the 18-year-old midfielder is without a doubt one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from their academy system in recent years.

In November, Mainoo received his first competitive start from Erik ten Hag against Everton, and many were impressed by his Man of the Match display.

He played at home against Liverpool at Anfield as well, but his finest performance was probably on Monday night as United advanced to the FA Cup fourth round and he won all eight of his tackles.

Following his breakthrough, Mainoo’s transfer value has skyrocketed. His current net worth is estimated by CIES Football Observatory to be €10 million.

Former United midfielder Tom Cleverley has praised Mainoo, saying the youngster has saved the Premier League club at least £60 million.

Cleverley told Ladbrokes Fanzone, “Mainoo’s rise has been the biggest positive, not just from the Liverpool game.”

“On the ball, he exudes confidence, composure, and sound decision-making. He continues to impress; it’s always good to have a player on your books who doesn’t require you to spend £60–70 million on him.

“I believe (Erik ten Hag) has done a fantastic job managing him; after a fantastic performance at Goodison, he was taken out of the spotlight.” We shouldn’t put too much stock in him too quickly. However, his career has gotten off to a terrific start.

“A lot of fans are asking why he’s not playing every game,” Cleverley continued, “but at the age of 18, it’s very difficult to be doing that.”

“In football, things move quickly, and players, especially the younger ones, are constantly afraid they will have to prove themselves to a new manager. Personally, I believe Mainoo has accomplished enough.

The football community as a whole is aware of his success. He didn’t appear phased when he entered the field at Galatasaray, played in the Everton game at Goodison Park, and then again against Liverpool at Anfield—three extremely hostile environments.”
