JUST IN: Sporting director traveled to England to meet with Man United ace as ‘progress is made’ on exit – report
Manchester United still has a week and a half left in the transfer window, but they still have at least one more player they want to sign.
It’s reasonable to anticipate that the Man United squad won’t look the same by the conclusion of the window as it does now, but that may go up to two depending on who they manage to sell.
Regarding sales, United has put a number of players available for a transfer, subject to obtaining the best deal; however, negotiations are currently at an impasse.
This is the reason the team hasn’t been able to sign Manuel Ugarte with conviction, but they are currently looking into innovative ways to make it happen.
That might not be necessary as a sporting director has been to England to meet with a United player, and movement is being made on one exit.
Giovanni Manna en route
After Antonio Conte’s Napoli lost 0-3 to Hellas Verona on the opening weekend, alarm bells are ringing loudly in Italy.
After that shocking defeat, any hesitation they may have had about signing players in the market is probably gone.
ADDITIONAL UNITED STORIES
Good news for United, as the Serie A team has been eyeing Scott McTominay for a transfer this summer.
In fact, given Fulham’s approach for Sander Berge, a United backup, they may be the only team making a genuine offer for him.
According to The Athletic, Giovanni Manna, the athletic director of Napoli, visited McTominay in person in England so that “progress is made” in his departure.
Although personal terms with the player have not yet been agreed upon, discussions have “stepped up” as United seeks clarity on the composition of their squad.
United may have lost some negotiating power now that Fulham is out of the running, but if Conte presses for him following the league defeat, they may regain some of that power.
Getting a balance on the Scott McTominay transfer: It’s obvious that United must sell in order to acquire, and few sales will provide them with the same advantages as Scott McTominay’s.
It was previously mentioned that because McTominay is an academy product, a transfer gives United an additional £125 million in buying power.
United must, however, find a balance since, after his finest goal-scoring season to date, they cannot be seen selling their player for peanuts.
In contrast to other players up for grabs like Jadon Sancho or Hannibal, McTominay is valued for his skill set by Erik ten Hag and has a clear role on the team.
Thus, in his situation, there’s no need for a panic sale, and United can afford to hold its position while accomplishing two goals.
It first conveys the idea that United will no longer be reducing their losses on valuable assets. Second, they have backup plans for the player in case things don’t work out and he doesn’t end up being a squandered asset. Business will be conducted on their terms.
