LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN UTD: The Reds lost two points in the title match as their tenacious opponents successfully defended to force a goalless draw.

Liverpool’s manager and captain appeared to be the most frustrated of all as the Reds failed to convert possession into a goal in a goalless draw against Manchester United, leaving them with many regrets.

The Reds had gotten off to a strong start against United, forcing several corners and putting Andre Onana to the test with a header from Virgil van Dijk in the first half. However, they occasionally lacked consistency and hesitated to take advantage of opportunities.

Darwin Nunez appeared increasingly erratic as the first half went on, at one point clinging to the ball for an excessive amount of time before making a pass or a shot.

Just before halftime, Nunez’s ball up caught him offside; normally, he could have looked along the line to determine his position. Klopp turned to his bench, shaking his head at what he had just witnessed from the forward.

The Reds manager had hoped that his team would gain greater clarity in front of goal in the second half, but it was not to be as United impressed and even started to pose a threat when they broke quickly, with Alisson making a great save from Rasmus Hojlund.

Van Dijk was enraged with midfielder Wataru Endo when he decided to pass backwards after regaining possession in midfield. Liverpool was trying to maintain their momentum and keep moving the ball forward. Van Dijk cut a frustrated figure, throwing his hands in the air and watching as what he perceived as an opportunity to maintain pressure was lost.

The Reds were facing a formidable United defense led by Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, with Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot playing strong full-back roles prior to Dalot’s late red card. The Reds had grown guilty of playing too safe.

Nine months after the Reds’ 7-0 victory at Anfield last season, Klopp and Van Dijk will undoubtedly view this as two points lost for the hosts. Additionally, the Reds failed to score this season for the first time.
