Despite Liverpool’s encouraging start to the season, Jamie Carragher is still pessimistic about the team’s chances of winning the Premier League. Legendary Liverpool player Steven Carragher notes the team’s strong start to the season but doubts Jürgen Klopp’s reorganized team is truly prepared to challenge for the title.

Liverpool changed their roster over the summer, and they have had a successful start to the 2023–24 campaign. It could possibly be the Premier League’s top team come Christmas if it wins this weekend against Arsenal. Carragher is optimistic about Liverpool’s early-season performance, but he is not yet entirely convinced that the team has what it takes to be a serious title contender.

Carragher expressed his worries while speaking on Sky Sports, saying, “Looking at the points Liverpool has, they are among the best teams in the nation. I’m not sure, though, until you see the performances in person. And I simply believe that I could use a little more persuasion.” However, he also hinted that, in contrast to previous seasons dominated by Liverpool and Manchester City, this season might not require a team to win almost every week to secure the title.

“There’s no better way to do that than by getting a great result against Arsenal at the weekend, who at this moment are top of the table,” Carragher stated. “I hope I’m wrong, but I just feel like Liverpool might fall just short of winning the championship. This season may be a little bit different from previous ones in that you won’t feel as like you have to win every single week. This season, things might not quite measure up to the long-standing standards set by Manchester City and Liverpool.”

Carragher acknowledged that Liverpool’s current Premier League position is probably better than expected. This follows a thorough midfield makeover that took place during the summer transfer window. He went on: “I think people thought that this Liverpool team, almost like a reboot under Klopp, would be more like next season with the new midfield… Liverpool is therefore most likely overachieving in terms of their current point total or results.”

Carragher still has doubts about Liverpool’s capacity to hold onto their current position and win the championship in spite of these unexpected outcomes. His remarks have spurred discussion about whether Liverpool can win the Premier League this year among both supporters and analysts.
