NOW WE DO: Following the club’s agreement to finalise the transfer last night, Chelsea has completed the signing of a world-class superstar for £60 million. The player is currently arriving for his medical, and an announcement is expected today.

Giovanni Manna, the sporting director of Napoli, has endorsed Antonio Conte, the former manager of Chelsea, in his assertion that the Blues’ prospective acquisition of striker Victor Osimhen is presently “blocked.”

The Nigerian international has long piqued Chelsea’s interest, and earlier this week, Manna met with Chelsea representatives in London as they attempted to finalise a deal. After scoring 26 goals in 32 league games during his injury-plagued season the previous year, Osimhen was a key component of Napoli’s Serie A title-winning campaign in 2022–2023.

Osimhen submitted a transfer request this summer, sparking persistent speculation about a possible transfer to the Premier League as the Blues prepare to use Romelu Lukaku, an out-of-favour striker, to help the two clubs come to an understanding.

Conte is obviously frustrated since he thought he would have Lukaku, who is reportedly one of his top targets, at his disposal at the beginning of the season. The Italian stated, “I will not talk about the players who are not part of the Napoli squad,” during a press conference earlier this week. You are all well aware that the Osimhen matter existed before to my arrival and will be handled alone by the club.

“I stayed out of that circumstance. You are all aware of how difficult the transfer market is, and that the deal is currently stalled. I’m not allowed to say anything more.

Manna has now gone one step further than Conte in suggesting that, even though Osimhen wants to leave, the club will ultimately manage his exit and that they won’t just sell him to anyone to obtain the money for him as quickly as possible.

“What the coach said is an objective fact; the situation is blocked,” he said to Sky Sports Italia. Victor is a significant player with significant circumstances and worth. It’s obvious what he wants. Right now, we made every effort to keep the squad intact. We will watch what transpires over the next ten days as we are not the only club in this predicament.

It is inappropriate to identify the sensations at this time. To come up with the greatest answer, we’re collaborating with his group. It’s not like we can just find him anyplace [to play], as we mentioned, since he is a significant player.

“We’ll have to speak with the player if we can’t come to an agreement by August 30th, as he is signed for a further two seasons.”

It’s unclear what this implies for the Blues’ pursuit of Osimhen, but encouraging discussions between the two parties earlier this week have led to some claiming that the Blues are in the lead in the battle for the Nigerian international.

Osimhen has been receiving texts from former Chelsea players John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba, who are trying to get him to join the team. However, there are now rumours that the player may choose down Chelsea in favour of a “dream” summer transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
