LET’S GO: The player arrives in Chelsea tonight in preparation for his formal announcement the following morning, and Chelsea has completed another double signing.

Chelsea and Arsenal, who are both attempting to bolster their squads in the last stages of the summer transfer season, have already been made aware of the significance of their upcoming selections.

The transfer windows for the two teams have been radically different; the Gunners have only added custodian David Raya and defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. Though their transactions over the last few weeks pale in contrast to the busy few months at Stamford Bridge, they are still pursuing Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, who appears likely to complete his own move to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.

The lack of an all-around center-forward is a position that neither club has addressed this summer, despite the fact that several of them won’t even be at Stamford Bridge until the following campaign. The question of whether the Emirates can seriously contend for the Premier League title without a traditional striker has been a source of debate in recent seasons, and manager Mikel Arteta has appeared to be able to get by without one.

Chelsea has also had difficulty at this position ever since Diego Costa left the team about seven seasons ago. About three months after Romelu Lukaku returned to west London, their £97.5 million attempt to lure him back failed miserably, and he has been out of favour at the Blues ever since, while players like Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson haven’t yet found their feet in the Premier League.

Both teams have been linked to the same players continuously throughout the summer, and they now want to close the transfer window on a strong note. This will probably involve adding another attacking option to their lineups. Victor Osimhen of Napoli, Ivan Toney of Brentford, and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting are just three names that have fuelled the rumours around the London rivals, but no deals have been finalised.

In terms of acquiring Osimhen, Chelsea is likely the team with the best chance of doing so. However, it now appears that Osimhen won’t be part of a trade that includes cash and Lukaku, as was the case with the deal last week. Both clubs are adamant that the agreements remain separate.

Toney was not included in Brentford’s lineup for their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace this past weekend. Manager Thomas Frank has hinted that the England international, who has been strongly linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League, may be leaving the team permanently. Whatever number nine either team chooses, they must acquire a goal scorer. Man City’s acquisition of Haaland, who scored his 91st goal in City colours to commemorate his 100th appearance for the team, demonstrated to Chelsea just how lethal he can be.

Opta’s graph reveals that 24 of his 91 goals have came from inside the six-yard box, with just four coming from outside the box. Considering how inconsistent Chelsea has been the past several seasons, that kind of crisp finishing is something that Chelsea has unfortunately lacked.

Considering their previous achievements, Arsenal supporters will probably tell you they don’t need a typical striker, but if the chance arises this summer to play above the usual, as Haaland has done, they won’t pass it up.
