After violence broke out on a tram yesterday before the Manchester City game, a teenager was hurt, and police have confirmed that they are looking into the incident.

Before Sunday’s City vs. Huddersfield match, violent scenes erupted on a Metrolink train that was traveling to the Etihad stadium (January 7). A man sporting a Manchester City t-shirt was seen on camera getting into a fight with several other people before he appeared to be struck and was left with a bloodied face.

It has now been confirmed by a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson that officers were dispatched to the scene in response to reports of an assault. A head injury was sustained by a teenager.

Before being sent to the hospital, Metrolink personnel administered first aid to him. As of yet, no one has been taken into custody.

“At around 1pm yesterday (Sunday, 7 January 2024), officers were called to reports of an assault on a Metrolink service heading towards the Etihad Stadium,” a GMP spokesperson said in a statement.

“Teenage victim received first aid from Metrolink personnel and was subsequently transported to a hospital after suffering a head injury. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made.”

Danny Vaughan, the head of Metrolink, had earlier said that the transport service was aware of the incident and had asked witnesses to get in touch with the police. He continued: “The safety of our passengers and staff is absolutely critical and we will be working closely with our Metrolink Operator, KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM) and GMP to assist in any way we can.”
