Gary Neville warns Ruben Amorim isn’t safe from Man Utd sack as insight into INEOS thinking is revealed
When it came to criticizing Ruben Amorim, Gary Neville didn’t hold back when he said that the Portuguese manager could be fired from Manchester United. Another commentator told fans to remember the date when real questions will start being asked about his reign.
The Red Devils hired the 39-year-old to replace Erik ten Hag, who left his highly regarded job as coach at Sporting CP to become the first manager of the INEOS era at Old Trafford and the sixth permanent manager since the club said goodbye to Sir Alex Ferguson 11 and a half years ago. If Manchester United were thinking that their new manager would make things better right away, they were very wrong. Their loss to Newcastle on Monday night was their fifth in six Premier League games.
The Red Devils are now a scary seven points above the relegation zone. Their next game is against the league leaders, Liverpool, so things could get a lot worse before they get better.
Even more disappointing was the fact that Neville and Jamie Carragher both said they thought United would lose to Eddie Howe’s team as soon as they saw the team sheet. Alexander Isak and Joelinton scored goals in the first 19 minutes to seal the loss. Amorim’s team never looked sharp enough to get back into the game.
Now Neville has stated that they can’t keep losing until the manager is questioned.
Neville told Sky Sports, “I mean, what happened?” when asked if the Red Devils would keep Amorim. Most likely not.
He did, however, tell the board, “They’re going to support him, aren’t they? “, so they would give him every chance to turn things around. Now that they’ve changed their minds, they’re going to stick with the boss and maybe even help him through the January transfer window.
“I don’t think they have that much money to spend in January because they’re close to FFP, but by the summer, they’ll need to do a lot of changes all over again.”
Neville asks Amorim a question as the second expert talks about Man Utd sack claims
Neville, like Carragher, thinks that United lost the game as soon as Amorim chose his team.
Neville said, “I think we knew a lot of what we saw on the field was going to happen.” “Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the middle,” he said. Not long ago, Jamie Carragher wrote in the studio that [Noussair] Mazraoui and [Diogo] Dalot should play wing-back and be more defensive. And that wouldn’t help you reach your goals, but it did.
I didn’t think the team decision was fair. Before I saw the team sheet, I was a little worried that Manchester United might do well in this game tonight. But after seeing the sheet, I was pretty sure that they would have a hard time. We saw a lot of things we thought we would see. It was a dark night.
Amorim has had the worst start as Manchester United boss in 93 years, with six losses in his first 11 games in charge.
So, Ben Foster, a former United goalie who now makes videos for YouTube, says it’s not impossible that United will fire Amorim before the end of the season. He sees their home game against Southampton on January 16 as a key game in their season.
“Can you picture if Manchester United fired another manager before the season was over?” Foster wrote on his YouTube account, The Cycling GK, before the game against the Magpies.“Oh my God, look at their next hosts. The next game is a Premier League home game against Newcastle. Then a Premier League game away at Liverpool. Then Arsenal in the FA Cup on the road.
It would be easy for them to lose all three. After that, they play Southampton at home, which is a huge game.
“Write down January 16 as the date that El Sackico will be at Old Trafford!”
Man Utd have a busy January ahead with a wing-back on their minds and a report on Rashford.
But United won’t spend much because their previous manager, Erik ten Hag, was able to spend £180 million in the summer. They will also do everything they can to support their manager since the club is now close to the FFP wind.
One clear way to do that is to sell players. Players like Antony and Joshua Zirkzee could be made available for move if the right offers come in.
Marcus Rashford is more likely to leave because he made it clear in a heated interview earlier this month that he was unhappy and ready to move on.
Ben Jacobs, a reporter for TEAMtalk, said that three Saudi Pro League teams might be interested in signing Rashford in January. However, a move to Paris Saint-Germain is not likely.
United is willing to loan Rashford to other teams, though, and more teams may want to sign the 60-time England international before the transfer window ends on Monday, February 3.
At the same time, the first offer for Antony has come in, and it’s a tempting one for the suffering Brazilian.
United wants to add a new left-sided wing-back. Milos Kerkez, Alphonso Davies, and Miguel Gutierrez are all players they are considering, but they are now focusing on one star in particular.
