Gary Neville gave bad responds to Paul Scholes over Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United decision

Gary Neville, a former captain of Manchester United, acknowledged experiencing a “sinking sensation” when deciding whether to take a short corner in response to Paul Scholes’ remarks from Monday night.

In their 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Wigan Athletic, United used a total of 12 corners. The team led by Erik ten Hag opted to keep the ball short instead of crossing the area.

After being chosen several times, Scholes reportedly decided it was time to give up and posted on Instagram, saying, “Short corners are s***.” Neville decided to make light of himself on Tuesday morning and tweeted, “Well that’s that!”

The Sky Sports pundit, though, rapidly clarified his worries. He continued, “It’s always a sinking feeling when the CB’s (centre-backs) have gone up and you have 5–6 in the box and you see it played short and not whipped in, even though I wouldn’t go as far as Scholesy on short corners (especially if the opposing team are giants).”

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes’ goals against League One opponents finally proved to be the reward for United’s methodical build-up strategy, as they secured a comfortable progression and a draw away at League Two Newport County or National League Eastleigh. Following the match, Ten Hag stated on ITV, “Oh definitely [United should have scored more].”

“More would have been wonderful to have been received. We had half a dozen good opportunities in the first half.

“We had a good game of football and could have done better, but you have to remain focused if you don’t score, and I believe we did that as well.” On Sunday, United will play their first Premier League matchup against Tottenham Hotspur.
