When it comes to strengthening their defensive midfield position, Manchester United is once again focusing on Amadou Onana.

The Belgian international was Erik ten Hag’s top DM target during the summer transfer window, according to FT, but they lacked the funds to sign the Everton midfield player.

Ultimately, Sofyan Amrabat, a Moroccan international on loan from Fiorentina, was brought in by the Red Devils.

Because they have the money to make one significant signing this month, the news source claims Man Utd have now moved in and started negotiations to sign Onana from the Toffees.

The Old Trafford team needs a rock-solid holding midfield star because Casemiro is past his prime and Amrabat hasn’t settled in yet. The 22-year-old Belgian is one of the best play breakers in the Premier League.

Last week, TEAMtalk revealed that Arsenal had made inquiries to sign Onana from the Merseysiders, who are demanding a hefty fee of approximately £70–£90 million for their valuable player.

For a number of reasons, Manchester United might have an advantage over the Gunners to get the nine-capped international.

According to FT, Everton is interested in signing Scott McTominay from the 20-time English champions, and a successful deal involving Onana and the Scottish player may be reached.

However, Arsenal already boasts two excellent defensive midfield players in Partey and Rice, the latter of whom was the record signing enticed to sign for more than £100 million in the summer.

Since Arteta already has a well-organized midfield and just needs a goal scorer, Rice has been a hit for the club. Nevertheless, the former Lille star would face fierce competition for the No. 6 position at the Emirates.

Let us know what you think: Should Manchester United spend big money to acquire Amadou Onana before Arsenal?
