Barella is still being considered by Liverpool.

In January, Liverpool is expected to rekindle their interest in a former transfer target.

Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan was strongly linked to Liverpool during the summer when they were trying to find a solution for their midfield problems.

But despite Jurgen Klopp supposedly being ‘obsessed’ with signing Barella, a move never materialised. Instead, other avenues were explored. However, Italian publication L’Interista has now suggested that Liverpool may once more be targeting the 26-year-old, given that the Reds are rumored to be searching for another addition.

It seems that Barella’s contract situation is the main issue. The Milan team is reportedly a little anxious about their star midfielder’s situation, despite the fact that he is still committed to Inter until at least 2026.

Barella’s current contract has two and a half years left on it, so there is reportedly “no hurry” to get him a new one. Nevertheless, Inter is said to not be in a position to turn down a “monster” offer from one of the interested English clubs.

Liverpool is reported to have expressed “great interest” in hiring Barella in light of this. The Italy international is reportedly being watched by Chelsea and Newcastle United as well, and Inter is prepared to move contract negotiations with him forward to the beginning of 2024.

It seems as though Liverpool is always connected to signing Barella during transfer windows.

But last summer was the time the Reds were going to bring the former Cagliari player to Anfield.

“Liverpool now has an attacking player who reminds me of Luis Suarez,” says Emil Heskey.

Barella had seemed to be a strong contender to fill the midfield positions that were available. However, Liverpool never made a firm offer, possibly turned off by his high asking price and the difficulty of getting him out of Inter.

There could be no serious concerns about the Italian’s caliber, for sure. Several people have praised Barella in the past; Jamie Carragher is among them, calling him “fantastic” following a standout performance in the Champions League the previous season.

His combative yet deft style would have fit right in with Liverpool’s midfield, it is obvious.

However, given the rumors that Barella would demand at least £52 million, perhaps the Reds decided it would be better to look elsewhere.

You would have to assume that this will-he-won’t-he story is pretty much over as he is scheduled to turn 27 in February.

From Inter’s perspective, it makes sense to be a little miffed about Barella’s contract. However, we don’t think they should be too concerned because there are still more than two years left on it. Barella is a boy from Inter. We believe he is here to stay and that his goal is to become a legend at San Siro.
