Chelsea get £51m transfer 'response' as Lautaro Martinez hope emerges

Antonio Silva has been linked with a move to Chelsea

How Chelsea uses the January transfer window is still to be determined. The Premier League season has started badly for the Blues; they are no longer in the running for the championship and are not expected to finish in Europe.

While Mauricio Pochettino may hope for certain arrivals and departures to support his goal of significantly enhancing the team’s form, he undoubtedly has his work cut out for him in trying to turn things around. Below, we’ve examined the most recent Chelsea rumors.

Antonio Silva extends an offer

According to reports, Chelsea’s offer for Benfica defender Antonio Silva was turned down for €60 million (£51 million) plus. Having made a good impression since making his first-team debut the previous season, the center-back is in high demand.

The 20-year-old center back has been linked to Manchester United and Liverpool, among other Premier League teams, but it seems Chelsea has been the team to try their luck with a deal first. According to Sports Witness via A Bola, Chelsea made an attempt to sign Silva not too long ago, but they were unable to do so because the Portuguese powerhouses are demanding a price that is more in line with the player’s €100 million (£86 million) release clause.

According to the aforementioned report, Benfica has no intention of selling the young player in the middle of the season, so a January move is “very unlikely”.

If Chelsea can pull this off, it would be a fantastic signing, according to football.london. Although Silva will not be inexpensive for potential purchasers, he appears to be the most gifted player to come out of the Benfica academy. Though Pochettino might have to pass on other candidates for this role in order to meet FFP requirements, the summer may be the ideal time to work out a deal.

Martinez cost

Chelsea is rumored to be interested in acquiring Inter striker Lautaro Martinez as they look to add a consistent goal scorer to their lineup. Having struggled for goals throughout the season, Pochettino’s team is searching for a player who can turn around the club’s fortunes in the closing third.

Martinez may be that player, and FourFourTwo via SportsLens reports that he could sign if a bid of between £80 million and £100 million is made for his services. With 16 goals in 17 games this season, the Argentine forward leads Serie A in scoring and has been one of Europe’s most lethal forwards in recent years.

football.london comments: Given his Argentinean connection to Pochettino, Martinez would undoubtedly be a great addition to the Stamford Bridge roster. Another question is whether the striker would be willing to leave his current team in the middle of the season while they are fighting for the Serie A championship.

The 26-year-old, who has scored double figures in league goals in each of his previous five seasons, is among the best available options.
