VERY DEPRESSING NEWS: Tragically, a former Chelsea player and manager passed away this morning following a brief illness, according to Chelsea news.

Legendary Death

“We are absolutely crushed by the loss of a fantastic husband and father who passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness,” read a statement from the family.

At this very difficult time, we ask for privacy so that we can grieve the passing of this wonderful man, who we were fortunate to have known and loved.

Shortly thereafter, a statement was issued by the League Managers’ Association expressing their profound sadness at the news of the passing of Terry Venables, a member of the association and a former president. Yvette and Terry’s family are in our prayers and thoughts at this difficult time.

Venables managed the Australian national team, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, and England from 1994 to 1996. Under his watch, England made it to the semi-finals of Euro 96 on home turf before losing to Germany in a penalty shootout.

What was the cause of Terry Venables’death?
At this moment, the only information that has been made public regarding Terry Venables’s death is the simple description of ‘a long illness,’ as stated by his family. No other details are known.

Big decisions need to be made by Barça boss Xavi regarding a number of players who are either out with injuries or are doubtful about their match fitness for the upcoming game.

Where does Barcelona stand? Can they be considered?
Barcelona beat Antwerp(5-0), Porto(0-1), and Shakhtar(2-1) before losing to the Ukrainians(1-0) just before the international break. They now have 9 points, good enough for first place in their group. Things appear solid on paper, but the gaps beneath are only covered with tracing paper: With the team winning games but failing to impress, something that Barcelona knows they can’t afford, public opinion has been swirling around Barça’s lacklustre playing style and, by extension, Xavi’s future with the club.

On top of that, Porto are tied for first place in the group with the Catalans, despite the Catalans’ promising position; things appear slightly unfair when we consider the first match between the two, which Xavi won by the narrowest of margins. The away game against Porto was a prime example of Barcelona’s recent trend of winning by razor-thin margins and scoring in the dying moments.

Taking a step back and looking at the group as a whole, we can see that Shakhtar impressed both at home and away from the LaLiga title holders, so if Antwerp loses to them, they will be level with Barcelona if Porto loses to Barcelona. If Barça wins, the pressure will be off them, but if they lose, they will be in a final-day drama.
