Even after leading Manchester United to a convincing 2-0 victory over Wigan in the FA Cup third round on Monday, Erik ten Hag is still under pressure to stay as the team’s manager.

Erik ten Hag’s tenure as Manchester United manager is expected to end “in the next few months,” according to Roy Keane.

With a comfortable but unspectacular 2-0 victory over Wigan on Monday night, Ten Hag led his team into the FA Cup fourth round. Diogo Dalot scored the first goal from the edge of the box, and Bruno Fernandes’ penalty kick in the second half secured victory.

But despite having plenty of opportunities, United was unable to capitalize on them; Rasmus Hojlund in particular was guilty of poor finishing, and Andre Onana had to make some vital saves. In the following round, United will play either Newport or Eastleigh; on Sunday, they play Tottenham in the Premier League.

While serving as an ITV pundit, former United captain Keane was unimpressed with what he observed about his former team. Keane answered, “No, not really,” when asked if he could see the DNA Ten Hag was attempting to establish. That, in my opinion, is United’s main drawback—you always know what to expect when you arrive.

The manager there makes reference to the “project,” which most likely indicates he will be leaving in the coming months. The hated term “project.” No, I haven’t seen it in a few months, and I didn’t see it tonight with United either. However, they advance to the next round and the matchup is straightforward the next time around, but you still need to perform better. And you always hope for more, given the opportunities they had tonight.

Ten Hag was previously questioned about the implications of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25% stake in the team for him. “It is an inspiration,” he said to ITV. Everyone has optimism. There is a great deal of work ahead. We’ve faced many obstacles, and although I believe we were doing well in the summer, this is a journey and a project, so we will face some obstacles along the way and overcome them in order to succeed.”

When asked about his team’s performance, he replied, “Winning is the main goal of the FA Cup; it is a knockout competition.” You wish to complete the task. “Job done,” is what I said in the changing room.

When asked if United ought to have scored more goals in light of Marcus Rashford, Hojlund, and Scott McTominay’s wasted opportunities, he responded, “Oh, definitely.” We probably created five or six really good chances in the first half. I thought that was excellent football. Although we ought to have taken more, we managed to maintain focus tonight, which is necessary when you don’t score.

“You can’t always explain away missed opportunities. Although we missed some excellent opportunities and attacks, the way we created them was passable.”
