Reportedly, Jadon Sancho’s future with Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund will be decided in a new round of negotiations. After the winger’s relationship with United manager Erik ten Hag broke down, the two sides have not yet decided whether to negotiate a permanent deal or a season-long loan for the player.

Ten Hag kicked Sancho out of the United first team and he didn’t play for four and a half months. The 23-year-old has not played for Manchester United since a public dispute broke out after he was left out of the matchday roster for United’s September match against Arsenal.

The former England international sent an immediate message to his parent club BVB after returning on loan in January, where he played from 2017 to 2021, by scoring an assist against Darmstadt in his debut, guaranteeing that he would play senior minutes for the remainder of the season.

United officials have reportedly decided to sell Sancho permanently, but a deal with Dortmund is unlikely to materialize anytime soon because the Bundesliga club would rather have a season-long loan with a buyout option at the conclusion of the 2024–25 season.

United allegedly told Sancho and his camp that they would prefer a summer sale, a move that the player is rumoured to support. If BVB were to agree, it would complete the picture.

Dortmund may decide against paying the permanent transfer fee, which could lead to Sancho’s return to United via a loan with an option. If United are unable to strike a simple deal with the German club, rumour has it that they will seek a loan with a buyout clause.

Reportedly, in the upcoming weeks, the two parties will meet to discuss Sancho’s future, and they will attempt to find common ground. United spent a staggering £73 million on the wide receiver in 2021 after years of tracking him.

After signing a lucrative deal at Old Trafford, Sancho’s production dropped significantly. The Red Devils scored just 12 goals in 82 games after Dortmund scored an impressive 50 goals in 137 games.

Despite early optimism about Sancho’s international prospects, he has failed to appear for England since 2021 and now appears to be out of contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 roster.

Dortmund are 20 points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and Sancho has gone seven games without scoring since recording an assist in his second debut for BVB.
