INEOS wants to hire a sporting director as their first major signing after acquiring 25% of Manchester United in return for sporting control.

Old Trafford is reportedly keeping tabs on Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of Newcastle United, and rumors have it that Manchester United have verbally agreed to sign him.

Man Utd and Ashworth have reportedly reached an agreement verbally, and Ashworth may approach Manchester United about signing players like Nicolo Barella and Gleison Bremer.

Man United have to agree £68.7m fee to seal signing before deadline

The 53-year-old was unsuccessful in pursuing Barella, but he succeeded in luring Sandro Tonali to the Magpies during the summer. Now, he might try to sign the midfielder if the 20-time English champions sign him.

Even though Ashworth’s contract is complicated and does not include a set release clause, he is reportedly unable to join United easily, per Shields Gazzette.

According to the report, in order to transfer their sporting director to Manchester United, Newcastle United are demanding a compensation fee of £21 million.

The St. James’ Park outfit is currently uninterested in reducing the asking price, although talks have advanced recently.

So, in order to sign Dan Ashworth, Manchester United will have to pay £21 million.

United cannot afford to lose any more money after a string of expensive signings that have failed at Old Trafford.

Hence, to raise the level of the team, it is necessary to recruit an effective sports director like Ashworth. Should Manchester United pay £21 million to recruit him, in your opinion?
