When Liverpool and Manchester City play for the Premier League title this weekend, seven players will not be able to participate.

On Sunday afternoon, Jurgen Klopp’s team will host the defending champions at Anfield. Before the match, Liverpool won a contentious match against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, will be riding high after his team thrashed Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Although both Liverpool and City will be aiming for victory, City will have the advantage of playing after a day off. For Thursday night’s Europa League round-of-16 first leg, the Anfield club must go to Prague, Czech Republic, to take on Sparta Prague. On Wednesday night, though, the treble winners will host Copenhagen for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 match; they are up 3-1 on aggregate.

Having said that, the Manchester Evening News has examined the players who will not be participating in this weekend’s Premier League title match, and there are a number of notable absences!

Grealish, Jack
Earlier this month, in Manchester City’s 6-2 FA Cup victory over Luton Town, Grealish appeared distraught after being substituted off the field. After the 28-year-old winger’s recent return from a long period on the sidelines, his teammates consoled him.

Ailment: Knockout

When will it be back?

I didn’t talk to the doctors, but I believe he griped a little about his groin, according to Guardiola. Perhaps somewhat similar to what was there previously. Even though he was in great physical condition, he suffered an injury early in the game.

As for Liverpool, though…
The Alexanders, Trent and ArnoldArnold has been sidelined since last month’s 3-1 Liverpool victory over Burnley at Anfield, when he aggravated a knee injury. Klopp has started Conor Bradley at right back while he’s been out with an injury.

Knee sprain

Scheduled return date: March 31, Brighton (H)

From Klopp’s perspective, “we never forced anybody back and will never do” while he is in charge. Something that needs some clarification. Two setbacks led to speculation that we might have pushed Trent back, which I was unaware of until I heard about it.

Even though it’s not what anyone wants or is doing, we operate in a high-performance area. Whenever an injury occurs, we make it a point to respond quickly. We catch that early moment, but nobody talks about it. The player ultimately has the last say, but following their lead would lead to them playing after only two weeks, which would be a major issue.

Becker, Alisson
In training at Kirkby last month, Alisson hurt his muscle, which sidelined him for Liverpool’s match against Brentford last month. Even though Klopp had previously hinted that the 31-year-old goalkeeper might return soon after the March international break, his injury appears to be more serious than initially anticipated.

Hamstring Pull

Rescheduled for April

Although Klopp has stated that a “real muscle injury” has occurred, he has not provided a specified timeline. When it comes to recovery, every player is unique. I think that covers it. It is quite lengthy. He is not going to be in the running for next week or anything.

We will most certainly have to wait a couple of extra weeks for him. Although it is a serious injury, it will not prevent him from playing this season. He is currently training in the gym rather than on the field.

Last month, Diogo Jota Jota was carted off the field after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury to his knee in the match against Brentford. Liverpool will be severely lacking in attacking threat this weekend due to Mohamed Salah’s absence and his minor injury.

Knee sprain

April to May is the return date.

Then there’s Diogo, who has a knee problem and is out, according to Klopp. Diogo will undoubtedly add a few months to the process. You have important days, and it’s not just because of the injuries.

Because everyone reacts differently and it depends on how much pain they’re still in, days five and ten are always crucial for reevaluating the situation.

That is the way it is; I am not even going to attempt to give you a timeline. “Okay, they won’t be in before…” doesn’t make much sense when these players aren’t available.

In the match against Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium, Curtis Jones Jones also took a knock, hurting his ankle. Although he is anticipated to make a comeback from the treatment room this month, the midfielder has not played since.

Problem: Foot

Return date: March 17, FA Cup quarterfinal featuring Manchester United (A).

“Curtis is probably the first one [to come back] around the international break,” according to what Lijnders has said. Once the international break is over, we will get to the rest.

Giovani Alcantara
Lately, Thiago has been hurting all over the place. His Liverpool contract is up in the summer, so he may have played his final game against Manchester City already.

Damage: Uncertain

When will it be back?

According to Klopp: “There’s no timescale.” Honestly, I’m not sure. As far as his health is concerned, there are a few things he must do before we can say whether he will be able to play again this season.

I’m not really interested in the subject because that’s not something that will be resolved quickly. I’m not entirely committed because it’s not like he could be in training in two weeks or anything. Frankly, I don’t know what else to say about it.

Matip Joel
During Liverpool’s December victory over Fulham, Matip tore his anterior cruciate ligament. Since then, the defender has had surgery, and we won’t see him play again until at least the summer.

Injury: ACL

Return season:

What Klopp has stated: “It’s an ACL, ruptured, so that’s what I unfortunately expected from the first second… That was how it appeared. That is really sad.
