Reportedly, Phil Lynch is leaving Manchester United to join Chelsea. The Daily Mail states that Lynch formally submitted his resignation last month at Old Trafford.

The US consortium BlueCo reportedly acquired Chelsea in 2022, and the American will now serve as global head of digital for the company. Rumor has it that he will be concentrating on Chelsea’s home stadium and will make history as the first executive to switch clubs since Peter Kenyon in 2003.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, who bought a 25% share in the Premier League powerhouses and promised to put an emphasis on performance, are reportedly unrelated to his departure from United, according to the report. The entirety of United’s production, including the club’s television channel MUTV, app, and social media platforms, was overseen by Lynch.

After a video of Lynch describing United’s approach to player development surfaced in 2021, Gary Neville took to social media to criticize the club’s methods. “Each one of these players are individuals,” Lynch stated in a brief video clip. I think it’s really about trying to understand what narrative they want to tell and then we’re here to support that narrative. Some want to focus on charity, some want to focus on family, and some want just football.

“At times, it can be somewhat challenging. A large portion of the media is actively attempting to develop that storyline and create that tabloid piece of content. We don’t do that whatsoever.

We’re attempting to collaborate with them to learn their story so that we can back and rally behind it.

Twice a day, we compile graphs showing how our fans feel about each player. Whether it’s a personal matter or a problem with the player’s performance on the field, we have thresholds that let us know when fan sentiment is going in one direction. At that point, we begin to collaborate with the player and his team on an individual basis to counter that narrative to some extent.

“Most of the time, it’s just emotion, and it goes away and gets better on its own. In spite of this, we put in a lot of effort into what we term social media tracking and monitoring, and we tailor our approach to each player individually—a total of 25 unique procedures. No, it’s not like I’ve laid out a plan and everyone is going to follow it.

“Developing Robots both on and off the field!” Neville tweeted after retweeting the video. Rescue yourself from their clutches. The team plays football. The way he talks to his controlling fans makes it seem like he’s running for president!
