While Mason Greenwood is making an impression on loan at Getafe this season, Ben Jacobs has exclusively discussed the Mason Greenwood situation at Manchester United with CaughtOffside.

Greenwood’s future would probably not be decided this January, according to the Daily Briefing columnist and transfer news expert, even though his strong play in La Liga has made him a target for Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.

Before his arrest and subsequent suspension by Manchester United, Greenwood was an important player for the team. The club then sent him out on loan in the summer.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe joining the team and having invested a quarter of a million dollars in the Premier League’s biggest clubs, the Red Devils might soon have to make an intriguing decision regarding Greenwood.

Ratcliffe’s stance, according to Jacobs, is that he doesn’t want to impede United’s investigation into the player, even though it was previously apparent that the club’s general position was that Greenwood would never play for them again.

“It’s still too early to tell what Mason Greenwood will do next.” I don’t see much clarity until later in the year, but he is settled and scoring at Getafe,” Jacobs remarked.

“Greenwood won’t play for Manchester United again, as was the club’s stance last year, and it doesn’t appear that Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have talked about changing that stance as of yet.

“Ratcliffe is cognizant of and respectful of the club’s investigation, and aware that several employees expressed worries about Greenwood going back to Carrington even after the Crown Prosecution Services announced that charges of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm had been dropped due to the withdrawal of a key witness from the case.

“Any talk of a possible return to Manchester United in January will be extremely sensitive, and nobody will commit to it.” Prior to Ratcliffe, several sources stated clearly last year that Greenwood would never again play for the team. It will take much more than the football department making that choice to reverse that position.

It is true that Getafe would be very willing to submit a long-term bid for Greenwood, but once more, nothing is formalized just yet. Links to Barcelona or Real Madrid are common. LaLiga is witnessing directly what Greenwood is able to accomplish on the field. However, I don’t think clarity will come until much later in the year.
