In an attempt to secure as much playing time as possible before this summer’s Euros, Ivan Toney has indicated that he would be content to remain at Brentford this month. Over the past few months, Toney’s relocation from west London has been speculated about, and Arsenal is reportedly interested in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
As one of the best strikers in the Premier League these days, Toney has been linked to a January move by the Gunners, who appear to be in desperate need of more firepower. The 27-year-old is still optimistic, though, that his efforts in a Brentford shirt will earn him a spot in the England team for the next European Championship in Germany.
“If somebody’s scoring goals and doing well, no matter who they’re playing for, it’s a great chance to put yourself forward to be in the window to be playing for England,” Toney told the Mirror.
“I did catch a little World Cup action. Although knowing I might have been involved made it even more painful to watch, what’s done is done. Nothing can be changed by me. Yes, it was painful, but that’s just part of life. Hey

With so many players vying for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s team, Toney will need to prove himself by improving in the second half of the campaign. To have the best chance of traveling to Germany, he will need to be performing at his peak against players like Ollie Watkins, Jarrod Bowen, Callum Wilson, and Marcus Rashford.
The forward continued by saying he could guarantee his place in the starting lineup by keeping Brentford in the Premier League—the Bees are currently only four points above the relegation zone.

“To try and get back to my form and be involved is the aim,” stated Toney, who is almost done serving an eight-month suspension for breaking football wagering regulations. “We are aware that there are other excellent strikers out there who will succeed greatly, but it is my responsibility to make sure I return to action quickly and put my name in the running to be considered.
“Dedication and hard work will be required. However, as I previously stated, that is a target to aim for, and participating in that would be a huge accomplishment.”
